Observational drawing - Eye
Tuesday 11th February 2020
What is grid observational drawing?
Grid observational drawing is the method of using a grid to accurately draw something. If something, an eye in this example, is drawn on a grid, you can take that same grid but have it be blank and focus on each square one by one and what you see in each square on the drawing and draw it accurately.

Reflection:
I enjoyed doing this drawing because it was a new style of drawing which I had never tried before. I have never used the grid method before, neither have I ever drawn an eye. This piece of work made me recognize the level of skill that I have and is definitely the piece I am most proud of.
WWW:
I was able to use the false effect of light on my drawing
I was able to draw a tear
I was able to draw eyelashes
EBI:
If I spent more time to improve the inner eye, on the right hand side of the eye
If I added more value to the crease on top of the eye.

How did the grid method help you?
The grid method allowed me to focus on one part of the eye at a time and not as a whole. At the start, I did not know where to start with the eye, but when understanding the purpose of the grid, had an idea of what direction I should be going in and what I should do first. I focused on one square at a time and trying to copy what I saw as closely to the original as possible.
What did you need to consider?
When drawing the eye, I had to consider the scale and proportion of the drawing on each square. I had to keep checking and make sure each square was correct and the same as the drawing as if not, it could change the scale and proportion of my eye.

well done - great scale, shape, detail and shading this is a grade 6 drawing
ReplyDeleteyou have a great observational skill and you have utilized the grid in order to help you.
well done. to develop further keep practicing your transition between light and dark tones that it gradually fades away
